Snowplough Stopping & Speed Control (Level 2)

Level 2 is designed for those who have completed Introduction to Skiing or have equivalent experience. At this stage, you should be comfortable moving around on skis, able to perform basic straight runs, and have been introduced to the snowplough position.

This is a group lesson where you will be learning alongside others at the same stage, with the instructor guiding the group through each part of the session.

What to Expect

The session focuses on developing snowplough stops and improving speed control, building confidence on the slope.

The session begins with a short refresher of Introduction to Skiing, including practising straight runs to ensure balance and control have been retained, before progressing into developing the snowplough for stopping and managing speed.

As confidence improves, the group may move further up the slope, potentially to the halfway point, allowing you to develop greater control and more consistent stopping.

Repetition is used throughout to build confidence, consistency, and control, helping movements become more natural and less forced.

Structure of the Session

Please arrive 30 minutes before your lesson time to allow for sign-in and equipment fitting.

Ski and boot fitting takes place before the lesson begins and is not included within the lesson time.

The 1-hour lesson refers to on-slope instruction only.

The session will take place on the slope, with exercises designed to build on the foundations introduced in Level 1.

Important Information

All participants in this lesson will be beginners and will progress through the session together at a steady pace.

Participants should wear suitable clothing, including long sleeves, long trousers, and gloves.

Standard ski gloves are not recommended, as they can become very hot and uncomfortable in typical UK conditions.

Helmets and boots are provided, but you are welcome to use your own if preferred.

The slope is mist-lubricated, so participants may get wet. A change of clothes is recommended.

What Happens Next

After completing Level 2, you will be ready to progress to Level 3, where you will begin developing more consistent turns and greater control across the slope.
