Our penguin lessons are focused on children between the ages of 5-7 years old, regardless of their ability. Lessons are taught on a 1-2-1 basis and are 30 minutes.
The lessons are dynamic, meaning we start at whatever level the child is at (the lessons are always tailored to the child's needs). If they are a complete beginner, they will start with skills such as how to put skis on, how to move about with them on, then when they are ready, moving up the slope. For children who have already done some skiing, the focus is then moved to whatever level they are at.
It is not possible to tell how many lessons a child will need before they are ready for open practice as each child is different and our penguin lessons are tailored to the pace the child is happy learning at.
It is worth considering (not only just for penguin lessons) that during a lesson, an instructor may repeat a few steps before moving onto the next focus area. This should not be considered a backwards step, but instead, a way to reinforce knowledge or technique, and as a way to correct any foundation level issues before moving on.
Children learn differently from adults and it is crucial that a child has fun during the lessons, so games may be incorporated into the lesson to aid learning a particular skill or technique.
Penguin lessons are typically available on weekends and weekday evening slots during our open periods.
