Our Puffin lessons are aimed at children between the ages of 3-4 years old, though this session is also open to children within the Penguin group who are very nervous and would benefit from a small group. This is typically in a small group of up to 5 children and lasts 30 minutes.

It is worth noting that these session(s) are not to teach a child to ski, but acts as an introduction to the ski kit and movement. For a lot of children, the idea of putting on big ski boots, helmet, gloves and skis can be quite a daunting experience. The aim of this session is to start introducing this to them at a young age and in a no pressure, relaxed atmosphere.

At the start of the session they will be kitted up with boots, helmet, gloves and skis while inside the ski lodge. Once outside, they are encouraged to just get used to walking about with the boots on, then once comfortable, they move onto walking about with skis on. There is never any pressure on these lessons and if a child wishes to just walk about with boots on for their first session, then that is fine. We also have tubes out on the slope (they can sit in these and slide down) for them to use so they can get the idea of sliding down a slope.

Throughout the session(s), a child's progress is monitored by the instructor and once the instructor feels that they are comfortable with everything, they are then encouraged to move into a Penguin lesson which is where there is more of a focus on learning to ski. Much like the Penguin lessons, it’s impossible to say how many sessions it would take before a child can progress to the next level.

A parent/guardian is allowed to be on the slope with their child(ren), though that parent/guardian is simply there as an aid or comfort for their own child(ren). We do not allow a parent/guardian to teach their child in any way and we require the parent/guardian to listen to the instructor when on the slope. A parent/guardian who wishes to be on the slope is required to wear a helmet which can be provided. Only one parent/guardian per child is allowed on the slope, though there are viewing areas for family members who wish to come along and watch.

Prices for Puffin lessons are £15 per child for 30 minutes. These sessions are typically run on Sunday mornings during our open season.

Rules & Considerations For Puffin Lessons:

• You must arrive 30 minutes before the lesson start time.
• All bare skin must be covered.
• Gloves must be worn.
• Everyone must wear a helmet whilst on the slope.
• All facial pierced jewellery must be removed before using the slope.
• No instruction other than with our own registered instructors is allowed.
• Helmets, boots and skis/snowboards are included in the price.
